Japanese Summer School, Nippon Foundation
A Japanese foundation aiming to enhance the country’s offshore engineering capacity has chosen RGU as delivery partners for their Marine Pioneers of the Future Scholarship Programme.
Masters’ students from nine different universities across Japan have already attended a summer school at RGU entitled ‘Ocean Energy – An International Dimension’. As well as visiting industrial sites and companies such as ROVOP in Aberdeen and the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) in Orkney, they completed modules in marine engineering, oil and gas and offshore renewables.
Head of the Office of Marine Development Capacity Building at the Nippon Foundation, Masanori Yoshida, said: “Scotland has taken the initiative in the offshore oil and gas and marine renewable energy sectors, while RGU has collaborated with industry for many decades and developed its advantage in these sectors.
“I hope we can further strengthen our relationship in the future.”
